Grantleigh Hosts 150th SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Tournament

The SPAR KZN Schoolgirls’ Hockey Challenge celebrates a major milestone this Saturday, 10 May, as Grantleigh School in Richards Bay hosts the 150th tournament since the event began in 2011. This is the seventh regional in this year’s exciting series.

Seven schools will take to the field in the North Coastal Regional, playing 21 fast-paced round robin games, each lasting 20 minutes. The top two teams will face off in the final at 3:30pm to decide who will represent the region at the Grand Finals in Durban this July.

Schools Competing:

  • Grantleigh (host and 7-time winner)
  • Felixton College (2-time winner)
  • Empangeni High School (4-time winner)
  • Eshowe High School
  • John Ross College
  • Richards Bay Christian School
  • St Catherine’s School

Grantleigh opens the day against Felixton at 8:00am, aiming to defend their title and earn an eighth win.

Tournament Format:

  • Win = 4 points
  • Score draw = 2 points
  • Goalless draw = 1 point
  • Loss = 0 points
  • A max of 7 goals per match is allowed for any one team.

The winner from this region will join six other regional champions, including St Mary’s DSG, Maris Stella, Epworth, St Anne’s, Kingsway High, and Ashton International College at the Grand Finals.
