Richardsbaai Wins the SPAR KZN Schoolgirls Netball Challenge

By admin Jul16,2024

On July 23, Hoerskool Richardsbaai emerged victorious in the SPAR KZN Schoolgirl’s Fast 5s Netball Challenge North Coast Regional, securing their win as the host school. In an exhilarating final match, Empangeni initially took the lead with Amanda Shelembe scoring an agile two pointer. Both teams displayed distinct strategies: while Richardsbaai focused on close-range passing to Tajaard for accurate shots, Empangeni utilized dynamic, cross-court passes to position Shelembe for her looping two-pointers.

As halftime neared, Richardsbaai held a slender advantage of 7-6 over Empangeni. In the second half, Richardsbaai’s performance surged led by their capital Anneke Louw, who executed four pivotal aerial interceptions. This defensive strength inspired the team to elevate their game. Taljaard and goal attack Tiana de Beer collaborated effectively, scoring six additional shots bring their total to 13 points. Despite Shelembe’s consistent efforts with two more two-pointers, Empangeni couldn’t bridge the gap, finishing the match with 11 points.

This outcome marked Empangeni High School’s third consecutive appearance in the regional final medal game. They previously secured a silver again this year. In contrast, Richardsbaai advanced from last year’s silver to clinch the title. The third-place game saw Empangeni’s second team narrowly edge out Eshowe High School. Looking forward, the South Coast Regional event is slated for July at Creston College, featuring local teams. Additional competitors are scheduled for August, September and October culminating the year’s netball events.
