Hospice Week: Every person has a right to quality of life and dignity in death.

By admin May8,2024

South Africa will commemorate Hospice Week from May 5–11, 2024 this year. Hospices are care centers for terminally ill patients. When it may be hard for a patient to deal with the fact that they are no longer a part of many things in the community or within the family. Hospice is there to provide care, comfort, quality of life, and spiritual support to patients as well as their family members.

During Hospice Week, Beads spoke to Nonkululeko who shared her experience working for Hospice FWC. She explained that the families of patients are invited to bring gifts and spend time with their loved ones. Additionally, hospice provides care during end-of-life stages to alleviate pain as many patients cannot be treated due to incurable illnesses or may choose not to undergo treatment.

During this week, Nonkululeko shared with us the various activities that took place. These included acknowledging and celebrating the accomplishments of the hospice and palliative care programs in collaboration with their partners. In addition to that, there were exciting performances like drumming, dances, and singing sessions. Hospice Week serves as a platform for emphasizing the significance of partnerships towards offering enhanced support and care for individuals dealing with life-threatening illnesses.
