We’re thrilled to share that Princess Mkabayi Mall has been honored as the SAPOA winner in the Rural & Small Town Development category and also bagged the overall award for Design & Development Innovation! These awards highlight the best in South African property development, recognizing projects that truly make a difference in design, innovation, and community impact.
Since opening in October 2024, The mall has become a vibrant hub for the community, covering over 30,902m². It not only caters to the retail needs of Vryheid but also pays homage to our rich Zulu culture. Named after Princess Mkabayi kaJama, a powerful figure known as the “Mother of Leadership,” the mall embodies her legacy of strength and wisdom.

This achievement wouldn’t have been possible without the incredible collaboration of their partners—Moolman Group, Twin City, JB Holdings, Green Giraffe Developments, and MDS Architecture. As Marusckha Scholtz, their Marketing Manager, beautifully puts it, “At Princess Mkabayi Mall, we believe progress and preservation can go hand in hand.” They have integrated sustainable practices, like solar energy and water treatment systems, to ensure they tread lightly on our environment.

The mall’s design is a heartfelt tribute to Zulu heritage, featuring traditional weaving patterns and circular hut-inspired structures that echo the natural beauty of our surroundings. At the entrance, you’ll find a stunning water feature engraved with the names of the nine Zulu kings—a powerful reminder of the ancestors’ enduring spirit.
