Dayspring Restaurant and Animal Farm based in Empangeni – North of KZN – is a popular tourist destination in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa. Owned by Dave and Les Ervine from Shayamoyo, the unique place combines a restaurant with an animal farm, offering a fun and educational experience for visitors of all ages. The restaurant is all about serving a range of delicious meals from breakfast to dinner. They focus in farm-to-table cuisine, using fresh produce from their gardens. The menu also includes burgers, sandwiches, salads.
The Animal Farm is home to a variety of animals, including horses, cows, pigs, sheep, goats, and birds. They have interactive animal encounters and feeding opportunities including Pony rides and Horse riding lessons. This fun space is great for the whole family as it has other activities such as a play area for kids, jungle gyms and trampolines. Adults can enjoy a farm shop selling fresh produce, baked goods, and handmade crafts. Picnic areas and braai facilities, events and parties – like birthday parties and weddings – can be hosted at Dayspring Restaurant and Animal Farm.
“We have self-catering cottages and rooms for overnight stays with bed and breakfast options. Dayspring Restaurant and Animal Farm offers a unique and enjoyable experience for families, couples, and groups. Visitors can enjoy good food, interact with animals, and relax in a beautiful countryside setting, ” said Les Ervine.
“Our business is set apart from other businesses as we are also an educational center where school children, both urban and rural children, can come and learn about farm animals and horses. Many children experience their first ride on a horse here. We also offer free riding sessions to the mentally and physically challenged and previously disadvantaged children from Thuthukani Special School in Empangeni. Our future goal and aspiration is to be able to offer riding lessons for previously disadvantaged children from other areas as well,” she said.
