At just 24, Sithembile Mandlala has embraced a life of exploring the natural and cultural gems of KwaZulu-Natal. Her travel footprints span six unforgettable destinations, including the wildlife-rich eHluhluwe-Mfolozi Game Reserve, the peaceful sands of St Lucia Mission’s Rock Beach, the luxury escape of Zimbali, the seaside calm of Zar Hotel in Kingsburgh, Amanzimtoti, and the energetic outdoor spirit of eGodini Bunduz Adventure Park.
But among all her journeys, one place captured her heart more than the rest was Paradise Valley Nature Reserve.Tucked outside Pinetown, Paradise Valley is a sanctuary of lush forests, winding trails, birdlife and its iconic waterfall. For Sithembile, it felt like stepping into a living postcard.
“Paradise Valley feels like the kind of place nature designed to remind us to breathe,” she reflects.
The reserve’s tranquil atmosphere offered her space to slow down, explore freely and reconnect with herself.
“It’s a place that quiets your mind while filling your heart,” she adds.
Travel, for Sithembile, is more than leisure it’s a form of growth. She feels grateful to experience so much of KZN at a young age and believes each destination has shaped her understanding of beauty, culture and resilience. From learning independence to finding peace in nature, every trip adds another layer to her personal journey.
“I’m grateful I get to explore KZN at such a young age. Adventure doesn’t have to be far. Sometimes paradise is just a drive away.”
With her curious spirit and love for discovery, Sithembile’s story is only beginning, And if her travels so far are anything to go by, the world starting with KZN has many more unforgettable adventures waiting for her.
