#BeadsBoost: Lungelo’s Pride Pork - Beads Magazine
Wed. Nov 12th, 2025

At just 24 years old, Lungelo Mthethwa is proving that rural areas hold untapped opportunities for young entrepreneurs. Growing up in a small village, Lungelo turned to pig farming after realizing the demand for pork in his community. What started with just two piglets, bought from his savings, has now grown into a promising business supplying local butcheries and households.
For many young people, rural areas are often seen as limiting, but Lungelo views them as fertile ground for innovation. “Our villages are full of opportunities; we just need to think differently,” he says. His business has not only created a source of income for himself but also inspired his peers to see farming as a viable career.
Challenges such as access to funding, veterinary services, and reliable markets remain. Yet, Lungelo’s story highlights the resilience of rural youth and the role of agriculture in shaping the future economy. “If you plant your dreams in the soil you have, they will grow – no matter where you are,” says Lungelo.
As more young people embrace entrepreneurship in villages, rural areas could become hubs of growth and self-sustainability. Lungelo’s journey shows that with vision, hard work, and support, youth can rewrite the narrative of rural business.
